यूपी: पटरी से उतरी कालका मेल, 35 लोगों की मौत

उत्तर प्रदेश के फतेहपुर जिले में मालवा रेलवे स्टेशन के पास रविवार को हावड़ा से दिल्ली जा रही कालका मेल की 13 बोगियां पटरी से उतर गईं जिससे कम से कम 35 यात्रियों की मौत हो गई तथा करीब 150 अन्य घायल हो गए.

ब्लैकबेरी फोन निर्माता कंपनी रिसर्च इन मोशन (आरआईएम) ने भारत में अपना नया टैबलेट प्लेबुक लॉन्‍च कर दिया है. कंपनी ने इस प्‍लेबुक को लॉन्च करने के लिए अभिनेता सलमान खान को आमंत्रित किया.

प्‍लेबुक के लॉन्‍च के साथ ही इंडिया टुडे ग्रुप (English में पढ़ें) ने भी ब्‍लैकबेरी के लिए अल्‍टीमेट ब्राइडल ऐप्‍स लॉन्‍च किया है. 'द इंडिया ब्राइड लुक बुक ऐप्‍स' भारत के बेस्‍ट ब्राइडल फैशन का संग्रह है जिसमें नवीनतम डिजाइन को शोकेस किया गया है. ब्‍लैकबेरी ऐप्‍स वर्ल्‍ड पर यह नि:शुल्‍क उपलब्‍ध है.

भारत में इसकी कीमत 27 हजार से लेकर 38 हजार के बीच होगी जिसकी मेमोरी 16 जीबी से 64 जीबी के बीच होगी. प्‍लेबुक की स्‍क्रीन 7 इंच की है और यह एक बिल्‍कुल नए ऑपरेटिंग सिस्‍टम पर काम करता है जिसे क्‍यूएनएक्‍स सॉफ्टवेयर ने तैयार किया है. इस टैबलेट कंप्‍यूटर का वजन महज 425 ग्राम है.

इसे इस्‍तेमाल करने वाले वाईफाई के जरिए इंटरनेट से जुड़ सकते हैं या‍ फिर अपने ब्‍लैकबेरी फोन को इससे जोड़कर भी आप इंटरनेट का इस्‍तेमाल कर सकत हैं.

प्‍लेबुक में वीडियो चैटिंग की सुविधा भी दी गई है जिसके लिए इसमें पीछे की तरफ 5 मेगापिक्‍सल कैमरा दिया गया है जबकि सामने की तरफ 3 मेगापिक्‍सल का कैमरा दिया गया है. प्‍लेबुक में ई-मेल के लिए ब्‍लैकबेरी ब्रीज दिया गया है जबकि परिवार और दोस्‍तों से जुड़े रहने के लिए ब्‍लैकबेरी मैसेंजर भी उपलब्‍ध है.

आरक्षण’ में मंडल आंदोलन का प्रसंग नहीं: प्रकाश झा

आरक्षण के चर्चित विषय को रुपहले पर्दे पर उतार रहे निर्माता-निर्देशक प्रकाश झा ने कहा कि उनकी आगामी फिल्म ‘आरक्षण: इंडिया वर्सेज इंडिया’ में मंडल आयोग की सिफारिशों के लागू होने के बाद हुए आंदोलन का कोई प्रसंग नहीं है.

आगामी फिल्म ‘आरक्षण’ के प्रचार के सिलसिले में पटना पहुंचे प्रकाश झा ने संवाददाता सम्मेलन में कहा कि देश में शिक्षा व्यवस्था के माफियाकरण और व्यवसायीकरण के कारण जो दुविधापूर्ण स्थिति उत्पन्न हुई है उस पर उनकी फिल्म केंद्रित है. फिल्म में मंडल आयोग के कारण हुए आंदोलन और चर्चित राजीव गोस्वामी के आत्मदाह का कोई प्रसंग नहीं है.

उन्होंने कहा कि आरक्षण समाज की सचाई है. इसके पक्ष और विपक्ष दोनों में तर्क दिये जा सकते हैं. शिक्षण संस्थाओं में आरक्षण के कारण एक वर्ग को सीटें सुलभ हुई है तो किसी दूसरे वर्ग के लिए अवसर कम हुए हैं. प्रकाश झा ने कहा कि आरक्षण फिल्म में पिछले दो-तीन दशक में शिक्षा का जो परिदृश्य देश में उभरा है उसका उल्लेख है. आज वही सफल हो रहा है जिसके पास पैसा है, जिसके पास 10 करोड़ की संपत्ति है वह सरकार की अनुमति से विश्वविद्यालय खोल सकता है.

प्रकाश झा ने बताया कि अमिताभ बच्चन, मनोज वाजपेयी, दीपिका पादुकोण और सैफ अली खान अभिनीत यह फिल्म कोचिंग संस्थानों और निजी शैक्षिक संस्थानों के रूप में करोड़ों रुपये के चल रहे समांतर शिक्षा व्यवसाय की सच्‍चाई देश के सामने रखेगी. यह व्यवसाय प्रतिवर्ष 30 से 40 फीसदी की दर से प्रगति कर रहा है. यह फिल्म आगामी 12 अगस्त को देश भर में रिलीज होगी.

राजनीति में विफल रहने वाले प्रकाश झा ने शिक्षा के कारोबार के लिए नेताओं को आड़े हाथ लेते हुए कहा कि महाराष्ट्र, मध्यप्रदेश और बिहार जैसे राज्यों में कई नेताओं के पास कई कई कालेज हैं. ऐसे कालेजों में अभिभावकों और विद्यार्थियों से पैसे की उगाही होती है.

संगीत की दुनिया में आर डी बर्मन और लता मंगेशकर की जोड़ी ने कई ऐतिहासिक गाने दिए हैं, पर कम ही लोगों को इस बात की जानकारी है कि आर डी ने जब पहली बार लता को देखा, तो वह शॉर्ट पहने हुए ही उनका ऑटोग्राफ लेने आ गए थे.
लता ने पंचम दा के जन्मदिन पर इस बात को याद किया है .
लता ने ट्विटर पर लिखा है, ‘आज मुझे 13-14 साल का एक छोटा लड़का याद आ रहा है, जो एस डी बर्मन साहब की रिकॉर्डिंग के दौरान खाकी शॉर्ट और सफेद शर्ट पहने हुए मेरे पास मेरा ऑटोग्राफ लेने आ गया था. बर्मन दा ने मुझसे कहा कि यह मेरा बेटा पंचम है, अभी सरोद सीख रहा है.’
उन्होंने लिखा है, ‘उस दिन मैं पहली बार पंचम से मिली. उसके कुछ सालों बाद मुझे महमूद साहब से यह सुनकर बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ कि पंचम उनकी फिल्म में संगीत दे रहा है और वह मेरा गाना रिकॉर्ड करना चाहते हैं.’
लता ने लिखा है, ‘उस फिल्म का नाम ‘छोटे नवाब’ था और गाना था ‘घर आजा घिर आई.’ सुरों की मल्लिका ने लिखा है कि उन्हें गाना सुनने के बाद यह जानकर बड़ा अच्छा लगा कि इतना छोटा लड़का इतना अच्छा संगीत दे रहा है.
लता के मुताबिक, ‘मैंने वह गाना गाया और उसके बाद वह सिलसिला चलता रहा.. मैंने उसके संगीत में कई कमाल के गाने गाए, वह बहुत छोटी उम्र में इस दुनिया से चला गया, इसका मुझे बहुत दु:ख है, उसके जाने के बाद मैंने उसका आखिरी गाना ‘कुछ ना कहो’ रिकॉर्ड किया.’
उन्होंने लिखा है, ‘पंचम सच में बहुत महान संगीतकार था, आज उसके जन्मदिन पर मैं इतना ही कहती हूं कि पंचम तुम हम सबके दिलों में हमेशा रहोगे.’

कामुक दृश्यों के भरोसे ही नहीं है मर्डर 2: इमरान हाशमी

‘मर्डर’ के सिक्वल को भले पहले की तुलना में ज्यादा उत्तेजक बताकर प्रचार किया जा रहा हो लेकिन फिल्म के मुख्य अदाकार इमरान हाशमी का कहना है कि फिल्म केवल कामुक दृश्यों पर ही नहीं टिकी है. निर्माता महेश भट्ट पहले ही कह चुके हैं कि अदाकारा जैक्लिन फर्नांडीज ने 2004 के मर्डर वाली मल्लिका को मादक अदाओं में पछाड़ दिया है. हाशमी ने कहा कि सिक्वेल फिल्म की पटकथा उतनी ही चुस्त है. उन्होंने कहा, ‘जब मर्डर 2 को जब कागज पर उतारा जा रहा था तो हम जानते थे कि हमें इसे नया, पहले से ज्यादा रोचक और चौंकाने वाला बनाना होगा.’
हाशमी ने कहा, ‘जब मर्डर रिलीज हुई थी तो यह उस वक्त की सबसे ज्यादा चर्चित फिल्म थी. यह पहली व्यवसायिक हिंदी फिल्म थी जिसमें उतनी कामुकता थी.’ उन्होंने कहा, ‘हालांकि फिल्म की कहानी भी बेहतरीन थी.’ 32 साल के अभिनेता मोहित सूरी निर्देशित इस फिल्म से भट्ट कैंप में वापसी कर रहे हैं.

आइटम गर्ल के रूप में जलवे बिखेरेंगी वीना मलिक

बिग बॉस सीजन-4 के जरिए भारतीय दर्शकों के बीच खास पहचान बना चुकी पाकिस्तानी अभिनेत्री वीना मलिक बॉलीवुड में आइटम गर्ल के रूप में दस्तक देने की तैयारी में हैं. ‘मुन्नी बदनाम’ गीत को आवाज देने वाली गायिका ममता ही वीना मलिक के लिए तैयार गीत को आवाज देंगी.
फलक्रम फिल्म्स के बैनर तले फिल्म ‘फिर मुलाकात हो न हो’ का निर्देशन कर रहे बॉबी शेख ने बताया, ‘‘हम वीना मलिक को एक आइटम गीत के लिए अनुबंधित करने जा रहे हैं. उनसे इसके लिए बातचीत लगभग हो चुकी है.’’
उन्होंने बताया कि ‘मुन्नी’ और ‘शीला’ की तरह ही वीना का आइटम गीत लोगों के बीच काफी लोकप्रिय होने की उम्मीद है.
‘रन’, ‘रंग दे बसंती’ जैसी फिल्मों में सहायक निर्देशक के तौर पर काम कर चुके बॉबी शेख की बतौर निर्देशक यह पहली फिल्म है जिसमें राजपाल यादव, कादर खान, प्रवीण कुमार एवं फिरोज खान (महाभारत के भीम एवं अर्जुन) और अरुण बाली का किरदार है.
शेख ने कहा कि मध्यम बजट की फिल्म होने के बावजूद इसमें टाइटैनिक और अवतार जैसी फिल्मों के टेक्नीशियन अपनी सेवाएं दे रहे हैं, जबकि फिल्मांकन दक्षिण के प्रख्यात सिनेमाटोग्राफर आर. जय प्रसाद कर रहे हैं. फिल्म की शूटिंग दो महीने में पूरी हो जाएगी और यह सिनेमाघरों में सितंबर में आ जाएगी.
आज के दौर की फिल्मों में अश्लीलता पर चिंता जताते हुए बॉबी शेख ने कहा, ‘‘मैंने ऐसी फिल्म बनाने का निर्णय किया है जिनमें प्यार का सही मतलब दिखाया गया है. इसमें नायक जिस लड़की को बचपन से प्यार करता है, उसके साथ रहने के बावजूद उसे हाथ तक नहीं लगाता.’’ उन्होंने बताया कि फिल्म में कुल छह गाने हैं, जिन्हें मशहूर गायक राहत फतेह अली खान, केके और आसिफ असलम ने गाया है.

योगगुरु बाबा रामदेव ने सरकार के प्रति नरम रुख जताते हुए कहा कि केंद्र ने विदेशों में जमा कालेधन को राष्ट्रीय संपत्ति घोषित करने के मुद्दे पर लिखित आश्वासन दे दिया तो हम इसका श्रेय सरकार को देंगे और प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह को रामलीला मैदान में नागरिक अभिनंदन के लिए आमंत्रित करेंगे.

रामदेव ने कहा कि हमारी सरकार या किसी राजनीतिक दल से कोई शत्रुता नहीं है और यदि केंद्र की कांग्रेस नीत सरकार हमारी मांगों को मान लेती है तो हम उसे इसका श्रेय देंगे.

उन्होंने रामलीला मैदान के मंच से वहां मौजूद लोगों को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, ‘‘यदि देश के ईमानदार प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह कालेधन को राष्ट्रीय संपत्ति घोषित करने पर कार्रवाई करते हैं तो हम उन्हें यहां नागरिक अभिनंदन के लिए बुलाएंगे.’’

उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि मनमोहन सिंह गठबंधन की राजनीति के चलते मजबूर हैं. उन्होंने साथ ही यह चेतावनी भी दी कि देशभर में जनता में भ्रष्टाचार को लेकर बहुत आक्रोश है और यदि इसे दबाने की कोशिश हुई और देश में कुछ भी हुआ तो उसके लिए बाबा रामदेव जिम्मेदार नहीं होगा.

कांग्रेस ने रामदेव के अनशन को निशाना बनाया

कांग्रेस ने बाबा रामदेव के अनशन को निशाना बनाते हुए आरोप लगाया है कि यह अनशन निहित स्वार्थी राजनीतिक हितों के रिमोट से संचालित है. साथ ही भाजपा, आरएसएस और उनके अनेक अग्रिम संगठन अभियान के जरिये सरकार को अस्थिर करने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं.

पार्टी प्रवक्ता अभिषेक मनु सिंघवी ने संवाददाताओं से कहा, ‘‘यह बहुत ही दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है कि भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ इस साझा लड़ाई को निहित राजनीतिक हितों को रिमोट से संचालित करने या हाईजेक करने की इजाजत दे दी गई. राष्ट्र यह देखकर हैरान है कि भाजपा, आरएसएस और उनके अग्रिम संगठन सरकार को अस्थिर करने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं.

उन्होंने कहा कि रामलीला मैदान जैसे आंदोलन की रूपरेखा बनाकर उसे नियंत्रित और समन्वित करके वे न सिर्फ सरकार को बल्कि राष्ट्र को अस्थिर कर रहे हैं.

सिंघवी ने कहा, ‘‘वहां साध्वी ऋतम्भरा क्या कर रही हैं. रामलीला मैदान में भाजपा और आरएसएस के समर्थक हैं और वे इस आंदोलन का समर्थन कर रहे हैं.’’ संवाददाताओं द्वारा यह पूछे जाने पर कि सरकार बाबा रामदेव से बातचीत क्यों कर रही है, उन्होंने कहा, हम समस्या को सुलझाना चाहते हैं, लेकिन हम नहीं चाहते कि कोई कोई अव्यावहारिक और अलोकतांत्रिक कदम उठाया जाये.

सिंघवी ने रामलीला मैदान में किये गये व्यापक इंतजाम पर भी सवाल उठाया, जहां लाखों लोगों के लिए खाने-पीने, रहने के लिए जरूरी सुविधायें उपलब्ध है. उन्होंने कहा कि निजी जेट विमानों के अलावा अनशन के नाम पर परिवहन की व्यवस्था और पांच सितारा सुविधायें हैं. शहर के अंदर एक छोटा-सा शहर. उन्होंने सवाल किया कि इन चीजों के लिए कौन पैसे लगा रहा है.

उन्होंने कहा कि देश यह जानना चाहेगा कि जो लोग कालाधन और भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ बगावत कर रहे हैं वे कौन से सिद्धांत का पालन कर रहे हैं. सिंघवी ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि संप्रग सरकार ने भ्रष्टाचार से निपटने के लिए अनेक कदम उठाये हैं और साथ ही कहा कि इस मामले में उसका काम अतुलनीय है.

'लोकपाल दायरे से पीएम, मुख्‍य न्‍यायाधिश को मुक्‍त रखा जाए'

योग गुरू बाबा रामदेव ने कहा है कि प्रस्तावित लोकपाल विधेयक से प्रधानमंत्री एवं देश के मुख्य न्यायाधीश के पद को मुक्त रखा जाना चाहिए.

रामदेव ने आवासीय शारीरिक शिक्षा संस्थान के विशाल मैदान में हजारों लोगों को योगासनों का अभ्‍यास कराने के बाद संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में कहा कि देश के प्रधानमंत्री और मुख्य न्यायाधीश का पद गरिमापूर्ण पद है और इसे प्रस्तावित लोकपाल विधेयक के दायरे से मुक्त रखा जाना चाहिए. इस योग शिविर में मध्यप्रदेश के नगर प्रशासन एवं विकास मंत्री बाबूलाल गौर भी उपस्थित थे।

उन्होंने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री का चुनाव प्रत्यक्ष प्रणाली से होना चाहिए. लोकसभा के लिए होने वाले चुनाव के साथ ही देश की जनता को यह अधिकार मिलना चाहिए कि वह अपने प्रधानमंत्री का चुनाव भी सीधे तौर पर कर सके. इसके अलावा चुनाव का खर्च सरकारी तौर पर उठाने से चुनाव के लिए राजनीतिक दलों द्वारा लिए जाने वाले चंदे से काले धन को दूर रखा जा सकेगा.

रामदेव ने तकनीकी एवं चिकित्सा शिक्षा का माध्यम अंग्रेजी भाषा होने पर दुख प्रकट करते हुए कहा कि जिस तरह चीन, जापान और कुछ अन्य देशों में ये शिक्षाएं उनकी अपनी भाषा में दी जाती हैं, उसी तरह भारत सरकार को भी इन्हें हिन्दी भाषा में उपलब्ध कराने की व्यवस्था करनी चाहिए.

सरकार ने विश्‍वासघात किया: बाबा रामदेव

सरकार और बाबा रामदेव के बीच अनशन शुरू होने से पहले ही कथित समझौता हो जाने संबंधी एक पत्र की पोल खुल जाने के चलते शनिवार शाम घटनाक्रम ने अचानक नाटकीय मोड़ ले लिया. अनशन समाप्त होने की जगह गतिरोध तब गहरा गया, जब सरकार ने योगगुरु के एक करीबी का लिखा वह पत्र जारी कर दिया, जो कहता है कि रामदेव अपना अनशन बीच में ही समाप्त कर देंगे.

बातचीत विफल रहने के बाद दोनों पक्षों के बीच वादों को तोड़ने के आरोप-प्रत्यारोप का दौर चला. रामदेव ने सरकार पर ‘विश्वासघात और धोखेबाजी’ करने का आरोप लगाया.

केंद्रीय मंत्री कपिल सिब्बल ने संवाददाताओं के समक्ष रामदेव के करीबी आचार्य बालकृष्ण का लिखा एक पत्र जारी किया. इसके बाद योगगुरु ने सरकार को आड़े हाथ लेते हुए कहा कि वह ‘विश्वासघात और धोखेबाजी’ कर रही है. रामदेव ने कहा कि वह अब सिर्फ प्रधानमंत्री की ही बात पर यकीन करेंगे, जिनका वह अब भी सम्मान करते हैं.

इससे कुछ क्षण पहले ही बाबा रामदेव ने शाम को सरकार द्वारा उनकी मांगें मान लिये जाने की घोषणा करते हुए कहा कि सरकार की ओर से लिखित आश्वासन आने पर वह अनशन तोड़ देंगे. अनशन स्थल का माहौल इस घटनाक्रम को देखते हुए विजयी उत्साह से सराबोर होने लगा और शनिवार को ही अनशन समाप्त होने की संभावनाएं सामने आने लगीं.

इसके कुछ ही क्षण बाद इस सत्याग्रह को खत्म करने के बारे में सरकार की सहमति से पूर्व में ही लिखी गयी पटकथा का खुलासा जब मीडिया ने किया, तो अचानक बात बनते-बनते बिगड़ गयी. इस पत्र पर रामदेव के विश्वस्त सहयोगी आचार्य बालकृष्ण के हस्ताक्षर हैं. पत्र की बात सामने आते ही सब कुछ शीर्षाशन की मुद्रा में नजर आने लगा.

रामदेव संवाददाताओं द्वारा बार-बार किये गये इस सवाल का जवाब नहीं दे पाये कि जब सरकार के साथ उनका लिखित समझौता हो चुका था, तो उन्होंने अनशन का ‘नाटक’ क्यों किया और समझौते की बात को जनता से और अपने समर्थकों से क्यों छिपाकर रखा.

सिब्बल ने अपने संवाददाता सम्मेलन में बाबा को ‘नरम-गरम’ संदेश देते हुए कहा कि सरकार ने अपनी सभी प्रतिबद्धताओं को पूरा कर दिया है. रामदेव को गलतफहमी थी कि विदेशों में जमा कालेधन को राष्ट्रीय संपत्ति घोषित करने के बारे में फैसला सरकार द्वारा गठित समिति करेगी, जबकि इस समिति को इस बारे में कानून बनाने का तौर-तरीका तय करना था. सिब्बल ने कहा कि सरकार इस बात को मान चुकी है. इस मुद्दे पर कोई अध्यादेश जारी करने की संभावना से इनकार करते हुए मंत्री ने वस्तुत: चेतावनी देते हुए कहा कि सरकार की नर्मी को कोई कमजोरी नहीं समझे.

सिब्बल ने कहा कि अगर हम बात सुन सकते हैं तो हम कठोर भी हो सकते हैं. उन्होंने कहा कि बातचीत को कमजोरी नहीं समझा जाना चाहिये.

सिब्बल के जारी पत्र का मजमून सामने आने के बाद में बाबा रामदेव संवाददाताओं के सवालों से बुरी तरह घिर गये और उन्हें पहले से ही लिखी पटकथा के बारे में जवाब देते नहीं बना कि आखिर जब सब कुछ पहले से तय था तो उन्होंने देश भर के लोगों को अनशन और सत्याग्रह के लिये क्यों बुलाया.

रामदेव के कहने का आशय था कि सरकार ने अगले दो दिन के भीतर उनकी सभी मांगें पूरा करने का लिखित वादा करने की बात कही थी और यह पत्र अनशन समाप्त करने का हमारी ओर से आश्वासन था.

बहरहाल, नैतिकता के शीर्ष पर बैठे नजर आने वाले रामदेव इन सवालों के दबाव में शीर्षाशन करते दिखने लगे और उन्होंने अपने तेवर अचानक कड़े करते हुए कहा कि वह जेल जाने से नहीं डरते और अपने समर्थकों के बीच उन्होंने बात-बात पर हुंकार भरवाना शुरू कर दिया.

सरकार की मुद्रा से रामदेव सकते में आ गये और उन्होंने अपनी तीनों मांगें पूरी होने तक सत्याग्रह जारी रखने का फिर ऐलान किया. तीन मांगें यानी कालेधन को राष्ट्रीय संपत्ति घोषित करना, कालेधन को जब्त करने के लिये कानून बनाना और कड़ी सजा देना तथा कर चोरी के पनाहगाहों में जाने वालों पर नजर रखना.

कपिल सिब्बल के पत्र सार्वजनिक कर देने से सकपकाये रामदेव ने कहा, ‘‘कपिल सिब्बल झूठे हैं. मैं उनसे जीवन में कभी बात नहीं करूंगा.’’ हालांकि, उन्होंने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री और उनके निर्णयों पर उन्हें अब भी विश्वास है.

सवालों के जवाब में रामदेव ने सफाई दी कि यह पत्र मंत्रियों के आग्रह के बाद दिया गया था. उनके अनुसार, मंत्री इस पत्र के जरिये प्रधानमंत्री को यह बताना चाहते थे कि रामदेव का अनशन अनिश्चितकालीन नहीं चलेगा और न ही इस आंदोलन का मकसद सरकार को अस्थिर करना है.

बाबा रामदेव का कहना था कि उनकी अगवानी के लिये चार मंत्रियों के हवाई अड्डे से पहुंचने से सरकार अपना फजीहत महसूस कर रही थी और इसी कारण यह पत्र लिखवाया.

सिब्बल ने संवाददाताओं से कहा कि उन्होंने रामदेव से फोन पर बातचीत कर उन्हें आश्वासन दिया था कि सरकार एक कानून बनाने और समिति गठित करने के लिये प्रतिबद्ध है और इस दिशा में प्रयास आगे बढ़ रहे हैं. हालांकि, मंत्री ने साफ किया कि इस संबंध में अध्यादेश जारी करने की कोई संभावना नहीं है.

सिब्बल ने कहा कि सरकार रामदेव को समिति गठित होने के आश्वासन संबंधी पत्र भेजेगी. रामदेव की कलई खोलने के फैसले का बचाव करते हुए सरकार के सूत्रों ने कहा कि योगगुरु लगातार अपना रुख बदल रहे थे.
सूत्रों ने कहा कि रामदेव ने अपराह्न चार बजे तक अनशन खत्म करने का वादा किया था और जब ऐसा नहीं हुआ तो उन्हें यह साफ तौर पर बताना पड़ा कि सरकार पत्र को जारी करने जा रही है.

इससे पहले भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ अनशन पर बैठे बाबा रामदेव ने आक्रामक रुख अपनाते हुए कहा कि उन्हें डराने के प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं और चेतावनी दी कि अगर उन पर प्रहार हुआ तो वे चुप नहीं बैठेंगे.

दोपहर में दो घंटे के विराम के बाद मंच पर फिर लौटने पर उन्होंने संभवत: कांग्रेस के आरोपों का जवाब देते हुए कहा, ‘‘कुछ लोग गैर-जिम्मेदाराना टिप्पणियां कर रहे हैं कि मैं अस्थिरता पैदा करना चाहता हूं. मैंने हिन्दू-मुसलमानों में, जाति या क्षेत्र आधारित फूट नहीं डाली है.’’

बाबा रामदेव ने कहा, ‘‘सचाई की इस लड़ाई में मैं पहला प्रहार नहीं करूंगा, लेकिन अगर मुझ पर हमला हुआ तो चुप भी नहीं बैठूंगा.’’

आरएसए और भाजपा के रिमोट कंट्रोल से संचालित होने के कांग्रेस के आरोप पर रामदेव ने कहा, ‘‘मैं भाजपा या आरएसएस का एजेंट नहीं हूं. मैं किसानों और श्रमिकों का एजेंट हूं. हम किसी पार्टी या व्यक्ति के विरुद्ध नहीं हैं.’’

सुबह अनशन पर बैठने पर उन्होंने आरोप लगाया था कि वह अपना आंदोलन नहीं चला पाएं इसके लिए ‘षड्यंत्र’ हो रहे हैं, लेकिन इस अरोप के बारे में उन्होंने अधिक कुछ कहने से इनकार कर दिया. योग गुरु ने कहा कि वे न तो कोई राजनीतिक पद चाहते हैं और न ही चुनाव लड़ना चाहते हैं. उन्‍होंने कहा, ‘‘अगर मुझे प्रधानमंत्री या राष्ट्रपति बनने की पेशकश की जाती है तो भी मैं नहीं बनूंगा.’’

प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह को ‘ईमानदार व्यक्ति’ बताते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि अगर सरकार सही नीयत से उनके मुद्दों को लेती है और उनकी मांग को स्वीकार करती है, तो इसका श्रेय वे सरकार को ही देंगे. उन्होंने कहा कि वे यहां कोई नौकरी या आरक्षण पाने के लिए नहीं आए हैं.

बाबा रामदेव ने कहा, ‘‘मैं भीख मांगने नहीं आया हूं. मैं उस बात की मांग कर रहा हूं जो देश के लिए सही है.’’

यह पूछे जाने पर कि क्या अन्ना हजारे द्वारा लोकपाल विधेयक मसौदा तैयार करने के लिए संयुक्त समिति गठित करने को स्वीकार करना, गलती थी, रामदेव ने कहा कि वे इस गांधीवादी कार्यकर्ता पर कोई टिप्पणी नहीं करेंगे. उन्होंने कहा कि हजारे उनके साथ हैं.

Midnight Police Swoop on Ramdev Breaks Up Fast

With talks breaking down, police swooped down on Baba Ramdev a little past midnight and detained him after firing tear gas shells and resorting to lathicharge on his supporters to end his day-old indefinite hunger strike on black money issue.

The dramatic police action came after government and the 46-year-old Yoga Guru had accused each other the previous night of betrayal on mutual assurances.

The drama that broke the midnight calm in the Ramlila Maidan a little after 1 AM unfolded when a large number of police personnel descended at the protest venue where Ramdev was demanding immediate action to bring back black money stashed in foreign tax havens.

After day break, police cleared all the remnants of Baba's support by evicting his followers from the protest site amidst stiff resistance.

Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said Baba Ramdev was detained as he was leaving the site.

Later sources said he was allowed to go out of Delhi and that probably he was headed to Haridwar.

Earlier, Home Secretary G K Pillai had maintained that he was not arrested or detained, a point echoed by Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta, who also rushed to the spot.

Gupta said there were some security concerns and that the permission for the yoga camp has been cancelled.

He said Ramdev's supporters indulged in stone throwing. Police did not use force except to use some tear gas, he added. A claim that was denied by eye-witnesses and media reporters.

Some elderly people experiences dizziness due to the impact of tear gas shelling resorted to by police.

30 of Baba Ramdev's supporters have been admitted to a nearby government hospital for treatment of injuries allegedly suffered during the police action. 

Women, many of them from out of town, complained of mistreatment at the hands of male constables, and eyewitnesses attested that they had been jostled, pushed around and forcibly evicted in the middle of night.

Ramdev's key aide, Tijarawala alleged that the yoga guru has been "kidnapped" by police and he feared for his life. The spokesman appealed to the Chief Justice of India to intervene and ensure Ramdev's safety and release.

The police withdrew the permission for his yoga camp and imposed prohibitory orders after (what a senior police official described as) a political decision was taken to end the protest.

Government's somersault

The previous night the government and Ramdev indulged in a blame game. Union Minister Kapil Sibal, who had negotiated with Ramdev, made public a letter written by his aide that the fast would be called off on Saturday evening if government gave written assurances on a legislation to bring back the black money from abroad and stringent punishment to offenders.

Ramdev hit back saying the government has indulged in "betrayal and cheating" and vowed not to talk to Sibal ever in his life, calling him a liar. He said he would go by the word of the Prime Minister.

Ramdev also pointed out that he was pestered and pressured to give such a commitment, which was signed by his aide, as he was told that this was required for the PM to be convinced that he did not intent to sit on a fast unto death.

After mutual accusations, the government on late Saturday night sent a fresh letter of assurance on his demands and appealed to him to withdraw his fast.

In hindsight, it seems that indications that the government could resort to some action were available when Sibal said that government which always reached out can also rein in. "If we are accommodative, we can also be firm," he had said.

Midnight Swoop

In the midnight drama, that was enacted live in front of television cameras, Ramdev's supporters, who were woken up from their sleep, rose in protest against the police action.

Chaos and commotion prevailed when the police, including a contingent of the Rapid Action Force (RAF), arrived at the venue and approached Ramdev, who was sleeping on the specially-erected rostrum from where he was addressing his supporters throughout the day.

As news spread that Ramdev may be arrested, a posse of supporters, including women, formed a human cordon around him making the job of police difficult to approach him.

Some supporters carried Baba Ramdev, who jumped from the dais, on their shoulders and that was the last that he was seen on television screens before he was removed from the place and detained.

Earlier, Ramdev was seen appealing to the supporters to remain calm and sought to pacify them while urging them not to resort to violence.

There was a minor fire when one of the tear gas shells emitted spark while falling near the stage. The blaze was put out immediately.

Why this midnight drama?

In his address to the supporters, Ramdev appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to allow him to be arrested during daytime.

"Why am I being arrested without any information, at night? I appeal to people to maintain calm...," Ramdev told the gathering.

He said he had not been shown any warrant or given any reasons by the police which was deployed in very large numbers, with more arriving as he spoke.

He also appealed the people of Delhi to come in large numbers to the protest venue.

He said that he had followed the law, negotiated with government in good faith, but they had displayed bad faith.

A small section of supporters, who had been lathi charged and forced to move, threw pots, tripods and mike stands on cops to prevent them from coming close to the stage.

The crowd dispersed from the stage after police fired tear gas shells. People were seen vacating the dais and the surrounding area after tear gas enveloped the whole area. 

The supporters also claimed that Baba alongwith Acharya Bala Krishnan and Jaydeep Arya, head of Bharat Swabhiman Manch, were arrested.

They also said Swami Sampoornanand, who is second in command, has taken charge of the agitation and has asked people to gather at Jantar Mantar.

Banners were torn and mattresses and furniture lay all over the Ramlila Maidan that resembled a war zone after the police action.

The Ramlila ground was booked for 20 days by Baba Ramdev for yoga camp but was turned as the venue for his "Satyagraha" movement.

Organisers were asking people not to leave the pandal and continue the protest. Some of them, associated with Baba's movement, contacted their associates in respective states to protest against police action in the morning.

Large number of people were leaving the spot, some were seen arguing with the policemen that why they have taken such an action when their protest was peaceful.

Some of the supporters refused to leave the venue saying they will not move till they get a direction to do so from Baba.

The police fired tear gas as the crowd threw stones. The police were reported to have withdrawn permission for Ramdev’s yoga camp. At 7pm, minister Kapil Sibal had held a news conference and released a written undertaking given by Ramdev yesterday to end his protest. Sibal then issued a veiled warning: “If we can reach out, we can also rein (him) in.” If the tactic was to pressure Ramdev into honouring his commitment, it didn’t work. Aware that his protest might now appear discredited as a mere show, the Baba toughened his stance before a crowd of 30,000 and refused to ever again talk to Sibal, the government’s key negotiator. “We kept calling him since afternoon but the expected announcement didn’t come. We now learn there was some misconception on black money,” Sibal later said. Sibal added: “We have said a committee will be formed to frame a law to declare illegally gotten money as a national asset. He thought we are only making a committee, not making the law. We will give him in writing that a law will be made if he wants.” That clarification was given to Ramdev in writing tonight before the police arrived. A PTI report said Ramdev had admitted yesterday’s deal with the government but claimed he had wanted to continue the fast to make sure the Centre honoured its promise of giving him in writing that it had agreed to his demands. According to Ramdev’s written undertaking, drafted and signed by his key aide Acharya Balkrishna, an announcement was to be made this afternoon about the agreement with the government. Then Ramdev would have merely continued with his “tap” (spiritual rites) till June 6. The letter is understood to have been written in the presence of Ramdev, some of his aides, and government negotiators Sibal and Subodh Kant Sahay. It begins with a categorical declaration: “According to Swami Ramdev’s consent....” Sure enough, around 2.30pm, Ramdev had left the dais and entered his tent for “telephone talks with the government”. He came out three hours later to say his fast would continue and that the talks were deadlocked over the issue of tackling black money. “I will break my fast tomorrow if the government brings an ordinance declaring black money hidden abroad as a national asset. They have agreed to a committee. I want action, not a committee,” he said. He added that he had “put on silent mode” his demand for withdrawal of 500-rupee notes to focus only on black money. They said the government needed to send out a tough message amid the popular impression that it had buckled before Ramdev’s agitation. The Baba had had his last meal of fruits, greens and milk at 7pm yesterday and had only drunk water since, said Jaideep Arya, chief coordinator of Ramdev’s Bharat Swabhiman Nyas. The yoga practitioner ascended the dais at 4.50 this morning. He started off with a yoga session, featuring mainly breathing and stomach exercises, but spoke at length against black money and English education. “The police have given permission for yoga, but even speaking the truth is yoga; satyagraha is yoga,” he said. He peppered his sermons with one-liners. “Whatever the outcome of this fast, our fat brothers and sisters will shed at least 1,000 kilos of weight.” Leaders from various faiths sat on the dais. Hindutva hawk Sadhvi Ritambhara joined the morning yoga session. Ramdev denied being “communal” and, asked about his RSS links, said he had “sadbhavana” with all social organisations including the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

Government on Saturday night sent a written assurance to Baba Ramdev on enacting law on black money and declaring it as national asset for which a committee will be set up. Toursim minister Subodh Kant Sahai told reporters that the letter has been sent to the yoga guru and expressed hope that he wou

ld call off the hunger strike which began here this morning.

"A letter will reach Ramdev in next 30 minutes. It has a written commitment (on the demands made by him) and a clarification on the draft given to him by the government," Sahai said.

Asked about the content of the letter, the Minister said that the letter provides for a commitment on his demands.

"One issue remained and that was government will announce black money as a national asset, people guilty of corruption will be given exemplary punishment.

"One per cent of commitment was remaining and we did not want the talks to breakdown. Therefore we are fulfilling the commitment. We hope Ramdev will fulfill his part of commitment of ending the agitation once he the written assurance," he said.

When pointed out that Ramdev was insisting on the issue of promulgating an ordinance, he said there were no talks about it. He refused to comment on Ramdev's allegation that government has betrayed him.
