NEW DELHI: Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran's on Wednesday strongly refuted allegations that his official decisions as telecom minister had indirectly benefited his brother's company, Sun TV Network.

The DMK leader in a statement said that he did not favour any company over others and no company was allowed to jump the queue. "The charges are not true. It's a malicious propaganda against me. I was totally impartial," he said.

Adding that there was no loss to the government during his tenure as Union telecom minister, Maran said he was not even a minister when Astro invested in Sun TV Network. "I own no shares or interest in Sun TV Network," Maran added.

The BJP has alleged that Sun TV Network belonging to Maran's brother Kalanithi Maran was an indirect beneficiary of the decisions taken by him during his tenure as telecom minister. Maran held the post from May 2004 to May 2007.

According to BJP, Malaysian company Maxis Communication bought 74 per cent stake in Aircel when Maran was the telecom minister and the company was later allotted more circles to operate. Maxis Communication through its subsidiary Astro invested around Rs 600 crore in Sun DTH belonging to Sun TV Network.

According to sources, the CBI is expected to question Maran soon.
