Baba Ramdev can hold only yoga camp, not call for agitation

Baba Ramdev, who wanted to launch asatyagraha andolan against corruption at Ramlila Maidan, has been given the thumbs down by Delhi Police. He has been granted permission only for holding a yoga shivir from June 1 to 20 and that too only for about 5,000 people. This means that yoga guru Ramdev cannot give a speech against corruption or make any demands from the government. Sources in Delhi Police said, "No procession or dharna will be allowed at the Ramlila Maidan during these 20 days."
Though he has been given permission to hold a dharna at Jantar Mantar, he can only address a crowd of 200 people. Ramdev's spokesman, S K Tijarawala, told TOI, "The satyagraha will take place at Jantar Mantar. "It's a historic movement in which about 50 million people will be joining Swamiji. If somebody wants to join a satyagraha, how can somebody stop them? We will abide by the rules laid by the administration and police. There will be no inconvenience to the public."

Earlier, there were reports that close to one lakh people will be joining Baba Ramdev in his satyagraha against corruption. Sources in Delhi Police said they cannot give permission for a procession with a larger crowd in Ramlila grounds due to security and traffic reasons.
Baba, who had joined Anna Hazare in his fight against corruption, had decided to go on fast demanding stamping out of corruption. He asked for a slew of measures like bringing back the black money stashed in foreign banks and booking people the culprits under 'sedition' laws. The yoga Guru has been pitching for the Lokpal Bill and had recommended the gallows for those involved in corruption.
His followers were expected to join him from all parts of the country and from abroad in the dharna. With Delhi Police's restriction on the number of people allowed at the Ramlila grounds, the plans have been thrown out of gear.
Police Sources said they will make traffic and security arrangements during the shivir.
