Reservoir crash car 'shunted'

A WOMAN who survived a horror smash which killed four of her family members says she was pulling into a lay-by when she was hit from behind.

Denise Griffith, 55, was behind the wheel of the Peugeot 807, when she said she felt it shunted from behind and the car plunged into a reservoir.
She was the sole survivor of the collision, which claimed the lives of her husband Emyr Griffith, 66, mother Phyllis Hooper, 84, and foster children Peter Briscome and Liam Govier, both 14-years-old.
The family were taking an early Easter break when tragedy struck on the B4518 at Bwlch y Gle Dam, Clywedog, Llanidloes, on April 20.
Mrs Griffith, of Pontypridd, south Wales, had slowed down and was pulling into a lay-by to admire the view over the mid Wales reservoir beauty spot.

At the time shocked locals said it was believed the family's people carrier had been "clipped" in the seconds before the tragedy.
Mechanic Gordon Dyche, 23, of Llanidloes, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released on bail.
He was at the wheel of a Ford Mondeo car which is believed to have come into contact with the Peugeot.
The family group was returning after spending the morning on a visit to the nearby market town of Machynlleth.
Mrs Griffith said in an open letter published in The Rhondda Leader: "On the way home my mother and Emyr were discussing the lovely view. We were pulling into the lay-by when we felt a shunt from the back. "The car turned over and rolled and unfortunately there was nowhere other than the reservoir for it to end up.
"A lovely day can turn into a nightmare and a tragedy in a split second.
"When I surfaced and saw my little dog Milly swimming to the rocks, I felt a small pang of relief to know that at least I had her to look after."
She added: "I have felt a strange sort of calm since the incident and I know that is through all the prayers that are being said for me from all over the world. This story seems to have touched a lot of people everywhere."
