Reaction to Sen. Kohl's decision not to run again

MILWAUKEE - Reaction to Wisconsin Sen. Herb Kohl's decision not to seek re-election in 2012:
- U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis.: "I personally want to thank Herb Kohl for his service to the nation and our great state of Wisconsin. I wish him well in his future endeavors."
- U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee: "Senator Kohl is 'Uncle Herb' - unbought by special interests - interested only in serving Wisconsin's citizens. I am saddened to hear about his retirement. His retirement is a big loss to our state.He has ably and humbly served the people of Wisconsin since he was first elected in 1988. He has earned the trust of Wisconsin through his years of hard work and service, and his leadership will be missed.''
- Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis.:"Senator Kohl has served the state with honor. He will be remembered for his advocacy for our state's dairy farmers, his work on behalf of children and his keen understanding of our state's business community. I sincerely wish him all the best."
-Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Mike Tate: "In an age where partisan rancor and corporate dollars have warped the values and discourse in Washington and Madison, he was the true Wisconsin gentleman, building consensus as a true champion of seniors, children, students, farmers and working families.''
- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett: "Herb has been a loyal friend to the people of Wisconsin, a steady presence in Washington and a passionate advocate for common sense in government. His leadership in establishing innovative programs for young people has improved the lives of thousands of children in Milwaukee. He has been instrumental in redefining Wisconsin's relationship with the federal government by promoting economic development and investment."
- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: "On behalf of all of us in Wisconsin, I want to thank Senator Kohl for his service in the United States Senate. He has been a tremendous advocate for Wisconsin - as well as a great supporter of our state in both his public and private live. We thank him for more than two decades of service."
-U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Menomonee Falls: "I salute Senator Kohl for his many years of service to the people of Wisconsin. While Senator Kohl and I have disagreed on many policy issues over the years, he has always served Wisconsinites with honor and integrity.
