Past Memories Future Keepsakes Exhibition

Keepsakes from memories past provide insight into the future at Terrace Downs
Two award winning North Island artists, Veronica Young and Soraya Bradley will be showcasing their fine artworks.
Art and what attracts one to a particular masterpiece can be such a personal and emotional connection. What may draw one individual to a painting can be completely different to the next persons preference.
One common factor that forms the basis of our connection to art is our memories. Memories tend to influence our future vision and choices. It is exactly this connection that is exemplified in the works of two award winning North Island artists, Veronica Young and Soraya Bradley who are set to launch their exhibition next week.
“Past Memories and Future Keepsakes” Exhibits at Terrace Downs Resort from 5th May 2011 to 3rd June 2011.
Veronica Young and Soraya Bradley have an extraordinary talent and a refined perception on life. Their works, whilst completely different and unique to each other, both share the underlying common theme of bringing the past into the future.
Soraya Bradley is a full time Australian born artist working in rural Horowhenua on the west coast of New Zealand. Her work in oils on canvas, gather together interests in the human condition, form, fashion, design and tradition.
Soraya holds a Diploma of Art and Creativity with honours, a Diploma of Teaching and a Diploma of Interior Design. Her works are recognised nationally and internationally. Her style of work is a modern interpretation and realism of previous centuries. She experiments with traditional painting techniques from the Renaissance to nineteenth century academic painting methods Soraya finds herself inspired by modern masters including Nelson Shanks, Odd Nerdrum and Andrew Wyeth.
Veronica Young, shares similar view on memories and art and feels that memories form the basis of our ideas about who we are and how we see our place in the world. She believes that they are the substance of our heritage and of our culture.
Veronica's work explores the relationship between objects and memories and how mementos carry our (hi)stories forward for the next generation. She collects and re-presents objects which connect with memories. By bringing stories of the past to light and elevating their importance through the creation of an artwork they are added to the cannon of history.
Veronica is a Wellington based artist and photographer who is the recipient of several nationally recognised awards. Veronica graduated in 2006 with a first class honours degree (bdes) from the School of Fine Arts, Massey University in Wellington.
It is only fitting that the works of these talented women is complemented by beautiful music and Terrace Downs is blessed to have that magical element with the voice of Local award winning singer, Kris Trousselot who plays for the guests throughout the opening night dinner.
Curator for the show, Rachael Inch comments “The South Island is blessed to host artists of such fine calibre. Veronica and Soraya have both produced extraordinary works that will push the envelope of what art is in a subtle yet powerful way. These artworks really produce a story and a vision of the future that can only be described as a monumental step in time. I feel that this opportunity not to be missed and it will offer an escape to the daily worries and stresses of life for a night by allowing people to relax and have fun.”
The Grand Opening reception is to be held in the Avoca Fine Dining Room, Thursday 5th May 2011 at 6:30pm, seated for dinner by 7pm.
There is to be a special set menu available at a special discounted price for the night and each attendee receives a complimentary beer or wine to begin the night.
