Free blood pressure checks prove popular

Get a blood pressure check, save a life. It's a simple equation.
BloodSCAnd for many, getting a check is just the first step.
So it was no surprise free blood pressure checks were so popular at the weekend, with people queueing to get theirs checked.
The nationwide campaign to raise awareness in communities was spearheaded by the Stroke Foundation, with local Rotarians getting in behind the cause along with St John and Foodstuffs supermarkets.
The Ashburton checks were based at New World for four hours on Saturday and Rotary Club of Ashburton member Richard Begbie said a lot of people took advantage of the checks.
"We had a lot of people get the checks, easily 100 people or more.
"The club was really pleased with the response but we were happy people took the opportunity to get their health checked.
"We had queues of about five or six people at a time so the guys inside the supermarket were really selling it.
"The free checks will be done again around the same time next year and from what I've been told, it's going to become a yearly thing," he said.
