FIRST TEAM -- Offense
QB - Gerry Myres, La Mirada: Myres had a phenomenal season. He completed 157 of 224 (70.1 percent) for 2,077 yards, 24 touchdowns and just three incerceptions while leading the Matadores to the Suburban League championship ahead of being upset by Santa Fe in the second round of the Southeast Division playoffs. He was named first-team All-CIF.RB - Rashaad Penny, Norwalk, Jr.: Penny made the most of the Double Wing. He rushed for 1,872 yards and 30 touchdowns on just 176 carries, a 10.6 per-carry average. He also caught 12 passes for 383 yards and seven TDs, averaging 31.9 yards per catch as the team's leading receiver. He was named first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
RB - Manusamos Lu'uga, Poly, Sr.: Lu'uga was Mr. Clutch in the playoffs while helping the Jackrabbits to the Pac-5 Division title.
Lu'uga finished with 1,430 yards on 205 carries and 14 touchdowns. He had 22 receptions for 253 yards and three TDs, and was named first-team All-CIF.
RB - Ryan Hunley, Bellflower, Sr. : Hunley proved one of the top backs in the greater Long Beach area, rushing for 1,907 yards and 17 touchdowns on 262 carries. He averaged 7.2 yards per carry, 190.7 per game and was subsequently named first-team All-Suburban League and first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
WR - A.J. Holman, St. John Bosco, Sr.: Holman was a threat all season for the Braves on their way to the Trinity League title and Pac-5 Division semifinals. Holman finished with 45 receptions for 657 yards and eight TDs toiling in the toughest league overall in the Southern Section.
WR - Dallis Shipp, La Mirada, Sr.: Shipp had one of those seasons most receivers only dream about. He caught 72 passes for 1,041 yards and 10 touchdowns while helping the Matadores to the Suburban League title. Shipp, who is 6-foot-5, averaged 94.6 yards per game and was named first-team all-league and All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
OL - Nico Falah, St. John Bosco, Sr.: The Braves averaged 40.5 points in 13 games and 385.2 yards of total offense - 178.9 passing, 206.3 rushing. Falah, a 6-foot-6, 270-pounder, is a big reason why.
Next season, he will be trying to put his talents to good use at USC.
He was first-team All-CIF in the Pac-5 Division.
OL - John Collins, Poly, Jr.: The Jackrabbits had several good linemen. Collins, at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, was one of them. His job was to help open holes for running backs Gerard Wicks and Manusamoa Lu'uga. The ground game was a big factor in Poly winning the Pac-5 title.
OL - Chris Borrayo, Paramount, Sr.: Two-way lineman Borrayo helped the Pirates to a share of the San Gabriel Valley League title, helping open holes for a run-oriented team that averaged 7.34 yards per carry. Borrayo - 6-foot-5, 290 - has been offered by several Pac-12 schools. He was first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
OL - Toa Lobendahn, Lakewood, Jr.: This terrific lineman was already been snagged by USC as he verbally committed to the Trojans on June 11, before his junior season even started. Lobendahn - 6-foot-4, 270 pounds - is still being courted by Stanford and Oregon, according to Rivals.com
OL - Mark Kozhaya, Downey, Sr.: In winning Southeast Division championship, the Vikings for 4,253 yards - 303.8 per game. Justin Huff alone ran for 2,364. A good offensive line is needed for that to happen, and the 6-foot-5, 300-pound Koshaya anchored that line for Downey. He was first-team All-CIF.
AP - Gerard Wicks, Poly, Sr.: Wicks, headed to Washington State, did a lot for the Jackrabbits. He rushed for 1,459 yards and 18 TDs, caught 18 p[asses for 189 yards and 2 TDs, returned kickoffs - averaging 27.2 yards - and punted. He was Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the Pac-5 Division.
FIRST TEAM -- Defense
LB - Jayon Brown, Poly, Sr.: Brown was selected Defensive Player of the Year in the CIF-SS Pac-5 Division. For good reason. He was the Jackrabbits' top defensive player during their run to the Pac-5 title. The UCLA-bound stalwart finished with 112 tackles and three interceptions.
LB - Robert Salazar, Downey: The Vikings gave up 19.2 points per game in 2012, a very respectable number, on their way to winning the CIF-SS Southeast Division title. Salazar led the team in tackles with a whopping 146, and he was subsequently named first-team All-CIF.
LB - Justus Faaiu, Cabrillo, Sr.: Faaiu had a whopping 146 tackles, averaging 13.3 per game for a Jaguars team that finished third in the Moore League, losing in the first round of the Pac-5 playoffs. Faaiu also had 15 sacks and was selected first-team All-league for the Jaguars.
DL - Malik Dorton, St. John Bosco, Jr.: Dorton was a terrific player on a terrific team. He finished with 51 tackles and six sacks in helping the Braves to the Trinity League title and semifinals of the Pac-5 Division playoffs. Dorton was named first-team All-CIF.
DL - Jason Fao, Poly, Sr.: Fao played on both sides of the line for the Jackrabbits, and was the best overall lineman on the team, his coach, Raul Lara said. Fao was selected first-team All-CIF in the Pac-5 Division. He finished with 38 tackles and 5 1/2 sacks and was selected first-team All-CIF
DL - Joe Brown, Paramount, Jr.: A two-way lineman - at 6-foot-5, 320 pounds - Brown is an intimidating sight regardless of which side of the ball he's on. He had 53 tackles and seven sacks in helping the Pirates to a share of the San Gabriel Valley League championship. He was first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
DL - Tyler Luatua, La Mirada, Jr.: A two-way star, Luatua had 46 tackles and five sacks on defense. On offense, as one of the country's top tight ends, he had 43 receptios for 594 yards and 8 TDs and was selected first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division for the Suburban League-champion Matadores. He was first-team All-CIF.
DL - Malcolm McAllister, Norwalk, Sr.: McAllister had a fine season as an iron-man player. On defense, he made 51 tackles and recorded 12 1/2 sacks. At 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, he was also quite a fullback, rushing for 980 yards and 15 TDs while averaging 11.2 yards per carry out of the double wing. He was first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
DB - Iman Marshall, Poly, Soph.: Marshall was one of many players who, by the end of a season that saw Poly win the Pac-5 title, had proved to be a money player. He finished with 48 tackles and an interception and was selected first-team All-CIF for his outstanding play.
DB - Kalan Montgomery, Dominguez, Sr.: Montgomery has become a hot commodity. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is being heavily recruited and has been offered by Arizona, Hawaii and San Diego State. This past season he helped the Dons to a share of the San Gabriel Valley League title. He was first-team All-CIF in the Southeast Division.
DB - Tristan Esparza, Downey, Jr.: Esparza was a heck of a two-way player. On defense he recorded 132 tackles and made four interceptions. On offense he caught 23 passes for 429 yards. It all helped the Vikings eventually win the CIF-SS Southeast Division championship. He was first-team All-CIF.
K - Reid Budrovich, St. John Bosco, Sr. - Clearly the best kicker in the greater Long Beach area, Budrovich booted 10 field goals and converted 61 PATs for a total of 91 points. He kicked 84 times and came through with 55 touchbacks. He was named first-team All-Trinity League.

Football Player of Year:
TERRELL NEWBY, RB, Chaminade, Sr.
Even though every opponent knew Terrell Newby was going to get the football, no one could stop him.
On seven occasions, Newby carried 27 times or more, and the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder had a monster year with 2,305 yards, averaging 7.7 yards in addition to catching 18 passes and scoring 45 touchdowns to give him 105 for his career - one of the most accomplished running backs in area history, especially for a back from a large school.
Operating out of Chaminade's power-pitch offense, Newby helped the Eagles to a 12-2 record, finishing as the Southern Section Western Division runner-up.
In a 78-34 victory at Harvard-Westlake, Newby rushed for 351 yards and eight touchdowns on 16 carries. The senior had other huge performances: 211 yards and four touchdowns in a loss to Oaks Christian; 233 yards and three touchdowns in a win at Notre Dame; and 176 yards and two touchdowns in a championship loss at Serra.
"Newby is a special guy," Chaminade coach Ed Croson said. "He's a fast guy, a tough guy, and he has a great motor. He's a special player, and even when he doesn't get the ball, you still have to consider him at all times.
"It's pretty common knowledge that when you play Chaminade, you have to account for Terrell Newby. It's not rocket science. He's going to get the ball."
Offensive Player of Year:
CORBIN COVEY, receiver, Camarillo, Sr.
Thriving in Camarillo's shotgun offense, Covey had an eye-popping
143 receptions for 1,347 yards and 12 touchdowns -=- among the most
productive in area history for a receiver.
Covey also rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 31.7 yards as a kick returner.
"Corbin has been here three years, and he knows the offense very well," Camarillo coach Dennis Riedmiller said. "Corbin can play a lot of positions -- receiver, slot plus we can use him in the backfield. He's one of the best players we've ever had at Camarillo."
Defensive Player of Year:
RICK GAMBOA, LB, Chaminade, Jr.
Gamboa had a huge season with 159 tackles, twice recording 20 or more
in a game, in addition to seven sacks and an interception.
Gamboa, the Mission League Defensive Player of the Year, was a key defending in helping Chaminade advance to the Western Division final at Serra, where Gamboa had nine tackles and a sack in a 30-28 championship loss.
Gamboa was a dominant player for the second year on a row after posting 113 tackles as a sophomore.
Coach of Year:
ROBERT GARCIA, San Fernando
In his first season, Garcia took over a program coming off
consecutive three-win seasons and led the Tigers to the City Section
Div. II championship with a 42-35 victory over Canoga Park in the final
at the Coliseum - San Fernando's first City championship in 37 years.
The Tigers finished third in the Valley Mission League, and no one expected San Fernando to still be around at the end.
"We put it all together even though a lot of people doubted us,"
Garcia said. "But that just motivated us more. We were the No. 5 seed, and everyone said we weren't good enough. I love it."
Newcomer of Year:
DESEAN HOLMES, WR/DB, Alemany, Soph.
Holmes did his best Steven Mitchell impression, catching 26 passes
for 624 yards - an average of 24 yards - in addition to scoring four
touchdowns and also totaling 24 tackles and two interceptions.
FIRST TEAM -- Offense
JA'BRIAN BLACKWELL, WR, Crespi, Sr.: He's just 5-7, 137 pounds but a dynamic talent with 43 receptions for 867 yards, 224 yards rushing and 15 TDs, most from 50 yards or longer.DEVON DUNN, QB, Alemany, Sr.: A two-year standout, Dunn completed 59.2 percent for 2,956 yards and 27 TDs in addition to rushing for 455 yards and seven TDs.
XAVIER MENIFIELD, RB, Sierra Canyon, Sr.: Northwestern-bound Menifield rushed for 1,520 yards and scored 21 touchdowns, and he also had 44 tackles and three sacks.
STEVEN MITCHELL, WR, Alemany, Sr.: The ultra-fast, USC-bound multi-purpose back caught 60 passes for 1,100 yards, rushed for 202 yards and scored 18 TDs.
KHALFANI MUHAMMED, RB, Notre Dame, Sr.: Also a top track sprinter, Muhammad rushed for 1,420 yards (6.6 avg.), caught 18 passes and scored 20 TDs.
SEAN MIURPHY, QB, Valencia, Sr.: In one of the most productive passing seasons in area history, Murphy completed 61.8 percent for 3,939 yards - including 473 in one game -- and 38 TDs Francis Owusu, all-purpose, Oaks Christian, Sr. -- The numbers speak for themselves: 14 total TDs, 52 catches for 915 yards, 206 yards rushing including a 90-yard TD and two INTs with a 95-yard TD.
THOMAS OSER, OL, Harvard-Westlake, Sr.: The 6-5, 290-pounder helped protect QB Chad Kanoff, who passed for 3,424 yards and 38 TDs.
DEMARIO RICHARD, RB, Palmdale, Jr.: In 10 games, Richard rushed for 1,722 yards (9.2 avg.) including nine consecutive 100-yard performances, caught 11 passes and scored 26 TDs.
KEVIN ROBLEDO, PK, Westlake, Soph.: In one of the greatest kicking seasons in California history, Robledo kicked 20 field goals in 24 attempts and 30 of 31 PATs.
JUAN RODRIGUEZ, OL, Canyon, Sr.: Also a productive defensive lineman, Rodriguez paved the way for the potent Cowboys, who averaged 42 points per game.
ELI SIBRIAN, OL, Chaminade, Sr.: A tough center for the Western Division-finalist Eagles, Sibrian was a key blocker for Terrell Newby, who scored 45 TDs.
KYLE SULKA, OL, Notre Dame, Sr.: The Serra League lineman of the year, Sulka followed in the footsteps of older brother Tyler Sulka, now at Arizona State.
LEROY TANOAI, OL, Notre Dame, Sr.: The 6-4, 315-pound also played nose guard, and he was an immovable force on both sides of the football.
Drew Wolitarsky, WR, Canyon, Sr.: California's all-time reception and yardage leader had another banner year with 89 catches for 1,275 yards and 15 TDs. Also an impact DB.
FIRST TEAM -- Defense
Brandon Arnold, DB, Crespi, Sr.: Known for his toughness and aggressiveness, Arnold had two INTs including a 75-yard TD return and four fumble recoveries.Luca Bruno, DL, Oak Park, Sr.: At 6-4, 285 pounds, Bruno dominated in the Tri-Valley League, finishing with 98 tackles (42 over last 3 games) and 8.5 sacks.
Jordan Dascalo, P, Taft, Sr.: Dascalo averaged 46 yards per punt and was also a dominant kicker with 12 field goals including a Taft-record three in one game.
Ray Davison, DL, Crespi, Sr.: A relentless pass rusher, the 6-3, 220-pound Davison totaled nine sacks and returned a fumble 90 yards for a TD.
Tyler Foreman, DB, Crespi, Sr.: A three-year starter who evolved into one of the nation's top recruits, Wisconsin-bound Foreman had five INTs and two fumble recoveries.
Cory Harris, DL, Chaminade, Sr.: Among California's sack leaders, Harris had 20.5 sacks, 22 hurries and 84 tackles in helping Chaminade to the Western final.
DASHON HUNT, DB. Westlake, Sr.: A four-year standout headed to Oregon State, Hunt had 32 tackles, five deflections and two fumble recoveries in addition to six TDs as a running back.
CAMERON JUDGE LB, Oaks Christian, Sr. : UCLA-bound Judge had 62 tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery and a 98-yard INT return for a TD. Also averaged 35 yards as a punter.
DONOVAN LEE, Chaminade, Sr.: Lee was all over the place with 52 tackles, six INTs (three in playoffs) and two fumble recoveries in addition to 15 TDs on offense.
TONY MACK, LB, Moorpark, Sr.: A key hitter for a team that thrived on defense, Mack, 6-2, 220 pounds, had 97 tackles, four sacks, two hurries, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery.
QUENTIN TARTABULL, LB, Alemany, Jr.: A key leader for the Warriors, Tartabull totaled 125 tackles, six sacks, four breakups and one interception.
TEDRIC THOMPSON, DB, Valencia, Sr.: A four-year letterman, Thompson had 58 tackles and two deflections, and he also caught 26 passes and scored seven TD
