The day Apple CEO Steve Jobs died, sales of the $175 mock turtleneck he wore more than doubled, the Minnesota retailer that makes them, St. Croix, tells TMZ. (The company said it would donate a portion of the sales to the American Cancer Society.)
According to Walter Isaacson's biography on Jobs - Gawker has an excerpt - the Apple honcho had "about a hundred" of the Issey Miyake-designed shirts stacked in his closet.
In the bio, Isaacson writes that Jobs told him he liked the idea of having a uniform because of its daily convenience (the rationale he claimed) and its ability to convey a signature style. He actually once suggested Apple employees wear vests as uniforms. He was booed offstage when he presented the idea. But he loved it for himself.
And just how many turtlenecks did Steve Jobs own?
