CIRCA celebrates 35 years by bringing to Wellington the award-winning American play August: Osage County.
Set during the sweltering late-summer heat of rural Oklahoma, Tracy Letts’ play exposes the dark side of the Western clan, an American Midwestern family whose extended members return home after the disappearance of their father.
Directed in Wellington by Susan Wilson, August: Osage County scooped the American
theatre awards winning five Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize, and is one of the longest running plays in Broadway history.
With a cast of 13 actors and in three acts August: Osage County is a big play on a scale not often seen on the Wellington stage. Veteran actress, Jennifer Ludlam, returns to Circa as Violet, the bitter pill-popping matriarch of the Western family. It’s a role which won Ludlam Best Actress and Best of Auckland awards for her performance in the Auckland Theatre Company’s production last year. The play also stars Ray Henwood, Michele Amas, Jane Waddell, Jeffrey Thomas, Laura Hill, and Jonathon Hendry. Music is by Gareth Farr.
