The macabre and spine-chilling events of Tuesday evening, April 19, would forever be etched in the mind of a 35 year-old shoe seller, Ebenezer Obeng.

The youngman had the unfortunate experience of having his right ear almost ripped off by some members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) task force team. His crime? For allegedly displaying his wares on the streets of the nation’s capital.

Narrating his ordeal to Peacefmonline, Ebenezer Obeng said at about 9pm on the said night, a number of AMA operational workers chanced upon him hawking his products in front of the Allied Filling Station near Kwame Nkrumah Circle. The task force team accused him of flouting the AMA bye-law that prohibits selling on the pavements of the capital.

According to him, he was just about dozing off when he noticed the AMA task force team in the process of seizing his goods which he claimed were in front of a locked up shop.

"After some hot exchanges with them and despite my explanations and protestations that i was selling in front of a shop and not on the pavement, they decided to send me over to their boss...in the course of my being questioned, one of them gave me a dirty slap for lying...the boss directed that the shoes be burnt which they accordingly did right in front of me at the AMA yard," he narrated.

He further recounted that he was later handed over to the operational workers again numbering about fifteen (15) who subjected him to some severe beatings.

"...whiles i was held down, one of the members of the AMA task force team stamped on my ears with his heavy boots...leading to my right ear nearly being ripped off...They told me I can take it to wherever I want,” he said.
