Libya Envoy Kicked Out Of UK

LIBYA'S ambassador to the UK was given 24 hours to get out of the country yesterday.Foreign Secretary William Hague gave Omar Jelban the boot after angry mobs stormed the British embassy in Tripoli.

Nato and UN offices in the Libyan capital were also attacked in protest at the death of Colonel Gaddafi's son Saif al-Arab in an airstrike.

Mr Hague said: "I take the failure to protect such premises very seriously indeed." He declared Jelban "persona non grata" - a diplomatic phrase meaning he must go. Mr Hague said the Gaddafi regime had once again breached its international responsibilities. The Foreign Office was investigating reports that the British embassy - officially known as the Residence - had been destroyed.

The UN evacuated 12 staff from its humanitarian agency in Tripoli because of the unrest. They were in neighbouring Tunisia last night. Other staff remain in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi in eastern Libya.

Gaddafi survived the Allied air raid that killed his 29-year-old son, three grandsons and a family friend.British jets did not take part in the attack in which three missiles caved in the roof of the tyrant's compound.Gaddafi escaped death in ANOTHER attack just hours earlier when bombs hit the TV station where he was recording a broadcast.
