Carlmont Journalism program receives recognition at award ceremony

Carlmont’s journalism program received much recognition at the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club’s High School journalism awards ceremony on Monday, May 2.
The ceremony was held at Ralston Hall on Notre Dame de Namur’s campus where many local high schools participated. Aragon, El Camino, Jefferson, Palo Alto, Gunn, San Mateo, Menlo-Atherton, and Mills were a few of the Peninsula high schools that attended. The competition consisted of 459 entries submitted by a total of 221 students.
Carlmont’s Connor Moore won a second- place award for sports writing, Arik Schoessow won a third-place award for best column, and Steven Tsujisaka won an honorable mention for best features story. The Highlander also received honorable mention in General Excellence and Layout and Design.
“I’m disappointed that our school received only five awards because I felt like our school deserved some of the other awards handed out such as website layout and design. Next year our goal is to not only improve our site and paper, but we want to win more awards,” said Carlmont journalism editor Steven Tsujisaka.
The Highlander will pass out their next issue on May 25 for the final edition of the 2010-2011 school year.
