Are you a Game Changer?

Sometimes business leaders need to step up and make the game changing shots; are you a game changer? Can you make the big shots when the pressure is on?
Too often in business I see leaders crumble under pressure when the game winning opportunity arises or they just plain miss taking the opportunity.
Recently I sat courtside at the historic Breakers Grand Final game and watched a fantastic team win a championship. I also watched a man who is renowned for stepping up for the big events make the big plays. CJ Bruton made two 3-point shots in a row that put the game out of reach for the opposition and sealed the victory with five minutes still to play.
When the opportunity arose and CJ had the ball in his hands he backed himself to not only take the shot but to make it, and make it he did. How great is it when the playmaker makes the big shots. In game two of the semi finals Kirk Penney scored 38 points in one game and changed the outcome of the game, again a game changing play.
You may remember during the regular season when Dillon Boucher had his head cut open, he needed 8 stitches and should have left the court for the night, but instead he had his head bandaged and was back on the court within minutes. That move changed the tide of the game and his teammates lifted in intensity to seal a win, another game changing moment.

When I arrived at Bartercard just on four years ago I found a business that needed some game changing plays. It would have been a lot easier to just let the business run as it always had, but it needed to change. Some tough decisions had to be made and some decisions that could have failed or succeeded needed to be made. Looking back now I can see we made a lot of good decisions that have helped the business grow to where we are today, some game changing decisions.
So what are the opportunities in your business right now? Are you sitting on the fence wondering if it will work if you make that decision. In business there are game changing moments; in fact we have them all through life.
Look back over your life and I am sure there are key game changing moments or turning points in your life where a key decision took you in a whole different direction had you not made that decision. It is almost frightening to wonder what life might be like had we not made that decision, chosen to take the left fork in the road instead of the right fork.
As business leaders we need to back ourselves and believe that making that game changing shot when the opportunity arises will lead to success. I challenge you to go ahead become a game changer and determine that you will win, you will succeed. Become the playmaker, the game changer, the ‘go to’ person for your team and back yourself to succeed.
