Don’t be afraid to wrap that chunky necklace over a delicate merino top either. This season is all about glamorous accessories which will vamp up your classic winter wardrobe. Coloured tights add style to a classic winter suit for work but make sure you do the pre-winter stocking test. It’s around this time, before the onslaught of cold weather, that your mounting pile of tights should be sorted. Laddered? Snagged? Ugly? Then dump them. Or what about the pair that are round your knees by lunchtime. Get rid of any that aren’t up to scratch and be ruthless. And remember, you can get away with a lot in between if you have good hair and good shoes.

If all else fails, clear out your wardrobe. Get a rubbish bag (or two), and rid yourself of clothes that are taking up space and preventing you from seeing what’s really in your closet. De-cluttering is a great rainy day activity. Happy winter shopping.
