I've written before about many studies showing that regular exercise reduces your risk of certain kinds of cancer. Exercise is one of the best ways to reduce cancer risk because it benefits your body and your mind – and there are no side effects.
But now new research gives even more reasons why you should get moving if you're worried about cancer. According to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Institute for Cancer Research, just sitting for prolonged periods increases the risk of inflammation and other indicators of cancer risk.
The solution: even if you work in an office job that requires you to sit for long periods of time, you should get up a couple of times an hour for brief (one- or two-minute) activity breaks. Walk to the window or the copying machine – anything to get going and get up off the chair.
The researchers looked at more than 200 studies of cancer risk and found that activity reduces the risk of at least three kinds of cancer: colon, breast and endometrial cancer. People who exercised the most reduced their risk as much as 30 percent, compared to people who were the least active.

Yikes! I sit for 8 hours or more each day at work. You've just inspired me to get up and get moving.
