Stephen R Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced that Thadius Page, 34, of Fairview Heights, Illinois, was sentenced on May 19, 2011, in United States District Court for conspiracy to commit unlawful activities of dog fighting and perjury. Page entered a plea of guilty on September 17, 2010, admitting that he, along with others, had conspired to commit unlawful activities of dog fighting. Page also entered a plea of guilty on November 23, 2010, admitting that he was under oath during the testimony, declaration, or certification, or made an unsworn declaration permitted by 28 United StatesC. 1746; made a false statement; or willfully made the false statement with knowledge of its falsity, rather than as a result of confusion, mistake, or faulty memory.
Page was sentenced to one year and one day of imprisonment for unlawful activities of dog fighting, and 21 months' imprisonment for perjury, each sentence to be served consecutively, resulting in a total sentence of 33 months and one day. These sentences are to be followed by three years of supervised release. Page was also ordered to pay a $40,000 fine and a $200 special assessment. Headed by the United States Department of Agriculture's Office of Inspector General, this dog-fighting investigation is the latest in a series of major animal fighting investigations conducted throughout the country since the passage of the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act, signed into law in May 2007, which makes it a felony to participate in the blood sport.
Participating in the investigation were the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Humane Society of Missouri, the United States Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Jennifer Hudson and Ranley R Killian.
